Home-Start dad with child

This was such a useful, worthwhile course to attend for any parent with children of all ages. I feel like I am more patient, and I understand the children’s behaviour much better. My family has changed because we are working together to tackle the challenges and having more fun. The respect in the house has improved for everyone and we all seem happier. It is amazing that this course was free of charge through the RNRMC, I feel like we have learnt things that we will be able to apply in future and have tools to use in the future throughout all 3 children’s lives

Through our work over the years, we see first hand that Royal Naval and Royal Marine families based in our city often deal with unique challenges associated with their lifestyle in addition to the normal day-to-day demands of parenting. Our RNRM project offers services tailored to RNRM members of our community and provide welcoming spaces where parents can meet with others in similar circumstances and build social connections for themselves and their children.

Working with funding from the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, our project aims to break isolation for Navy and Marine families.

Home Visiting

Families with a child aged under the age of 11, who has a Royal Navy or Royal Marines serving parent or carer, can be referred for home visiting or refer themselves. The Armed Forces Coordinator will then be touch and can arrange weekly support from a volunteer who will offer practical and emotional support.

Nurturing Programme

Open to all naval families across Hampshire, this structured parenting course offers a safe and supportive space to reflect and grow as a family. Each session is confidential and shaped around the unique experience of naval family life.

It’s an opportunity to connect with other military parents, share stories, and develop practical tools that help family life thrive… even when things feel unpredictable 💜 A free crèche is available for children under 5.

The 10-week course is hosted by trained coordinators who are there to guide you through each week – with the all important tea and biscuits!

We have the following course coming up this year –

Autumn – starting 18th September
Fridays – 12.30pm – 2.30pm
The Haven, 17 Lake Road, PO1 4HA

There is a creche available for your child who hasn’t started school yet. This creche will always be in the same building.

Transport within the city of Portsmouth is available if it is needed.

Parents from across Hampshire can join these courses.

Sessions are 2 hours long and during school hours.
