Cost of Living Support

We are all being effected day to day with the cost of living crisis. Here at Home-Start Portsmouth we are coming across more and more families in need of help and support to get by and access daily essentials for their family. Portsmouth City Council have an excellent website to help you access the right information from anything to getting food and essentials, to ideas on how to save money to finding out ways to support others. If you would like to support a family on a regular basis and join our team of amazing volunteers, please contact our office on 02392 734 400. It starts with community!

NHS Healthy Start

If you’re more than 10 weeks pregnant or have a child under 4, you may be entitled to get help to buy healthy food and milk.

If you’re eligible, you’ll be sent a Healthy Start card with money on it that you can use in some UK shops. We’ll add your benefit onto this card every 4 weeks.

You can use your card to buy:

  • plain liquid cow’s milk
  • fresh, frozen, and tinned fruit and vegetables
  • fresh, dried, and tinned pulses
  • infant formula milk based on cow’s milk

You can also use your card to collect:

  • Healthy Start vitamins – these support you during pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • vitamin drops for babies and young children – these are suitable from birth to 4 years old

HAF Fun Pompey

Portsmouth City Council are delighted to continue the delivery of the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme during the Easter, Summer and Christmas 2022 school holidays. Funded by the Department for Education, we can provide free holiday provision, including nutritious food and enriching activities, for children aged 5-16 who are eligible for benefits-related free school meals.
