Amy was referred to us because her children had recently been placed on a Child Protection Plan and Amy needed help to focus on making sure she met all the children’s needs. She had recently ended a violent relationship with their father and was determined to make sure all 3 boys were kept safe and well. The older children had poor school attendance and the home conditions were poor.
We allocated Amy a place on The Nurturing Programme and matched her with a volunteer, Cynthia. Amy engaged really well with the course and attended 9 sessions out of a possible 10. She started to show great insight into her own parenting and Cynthia helped her to put this into action at home with the children.
They worked together on behaviour management techniques such as sticker charts and Amy started to feel more in charge at home. Cynthia also helped Amy to implement routines that led to improved attendance and home conditions.
After 6 months of support the children were assessed as being safer and were stepped down from the Child Protection Plans.
