Samir and her 2 and 3 year old girls were referred to us because Samir was feeling very isolated. She was living in Portsmouth because her husband was in the navy but he had been deployed and she had no support network here and did not know the area.
We matched her to Peter who has lived here for over 30 years and is an experienced volunteer with us. Peter helped Samir to get up and out with the girls every week and introduced them to lots of local parks, helped them register at the library and found a stay and play group that worked with the family’s routine.
Samir told us at the end of support that she now really felt like a member of the community and had made some lasting friendships with other mums at the group.
